Temporary Roundabout Demonstration Coming to US-89 and Greys River Road

US-89 & Greys River Road
Beginning September 22, the Town of Alpine will install a temporary roundabout at the intersection of US-89 and Greys River Road as part of its Safe Streets and Roads for All Transportation Safety Action Plan.
The temporary roundabout is a demonstration project designed to help the Town evaluate a potential safety improvement before considering any long-term changes. The installation will allow the Town, project team, and community members to experience how the intersection functions with a roundabout and provide feedback about its effectiveness.
The temporary roundabout will remain in place through October 14, and the road will return to regular conditions on October 15.

No decisions about permanent improvements have been made. The Town and project team will use traffic observations, field evaluations, and community feedback to better understand how the temporary roundabout functions and whether similar improvements should be considered in the future.
Community participation is an important part of the Town of Alpine Transportation Safety Action Plan.
Residents, businesses, visitors, and others who use the intersection are encouraged to experience the temporary roundabout and share their observations during the demonstration period.

The Town of Alpine is developing a Transportation Safety Action Plan through the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program.
The project is intended to identify transportation safety needs and potential improvements throughout Alpine while incorporating data, field observations, and community input.
As part of this effort, the Town is conducting a temporary roundabout demonstration at US-89 and Greys River Road.
Why a Temporary Demonstration?
The temporary roundabout allows the Town to evaluate a potential safety improvement under real-world conditions before considering any long-term changes.
During the demonstration, the Town and project team will gather information about traffic operations, safety, and users’ overall experiences.
The demonstration will also allow the project team to observe how the intersection functions for different users and vehicle types, including:
- Passenger vehicles
- Recreational vehicles
- Buses
- Emergency vehicles
- Pedestrians
- Bicyclists
- Other road user
